The Last To Know

Director Bonnie Friedman / 1982 / USA

This moving film about four women from different economic backgrounds shows how alcohol and prescribed drugs affect all aspects of their lives - from their work situations , to their sexual identities, to their own self images. lt demonstrates how the medical community, the media, and the values of society at large actually perpetuate this problem in women. In the United States, there are nearly 5 million women who are “hidden” alcoholics. This is the first film to deal with the special issues of women and the severe stigma that surrounds them, keeping them from getting help.
