SALLY AND FREEDOM

Sally Och Friheden

Director Gunnel Lindblom / 1981 / Sweden

Gunnel Lindblom's second feature is about women and for women.

To free herself from his domination, 30-year-old Sally, a social worker, decides to leave her husband, Jonas, and sets out to create a life of her own.

Their six-year-old daughter, Mia, is going to live with her. Soon, however, Sally meets Simon, a charming bohemian with whom she tries to establish a relationship based on mutual respect for each other's freedom. Meanwhile, Jonas has married again, and Sally agrees to let Mia live with him. She finds it difficult to adjust to her new life because she lacks self-confidence and misses the old security. When Sally tries to convert the “free" relationship with Simon into something very similar to her marriage, she has to face the consequences.
