STANDING ALONE

Director Colin Low / 1982 / Canada

Pete Standing Alone is a Blood Indian I caught between two worlds—the 19th j century horse culture of the Plains Indian and the energy politics of the 1980s. | He passionately believes that it should | be possible to have the best of both.

As a young man Peter was more a part of the white man's world—a rodeo rider, an oil rig roughneck, a spectator at Indian tribal ceremonies. The death of his parents, however, changed his thinking and he became more concerned with his roots. When he started to investigate the history of the Blood Indians, he discovered a culture that has probably been is existence for thousands of years. As his knowledge grew, so did his intense desire to pass on to the next generation the customs and traditions of his ancestors.
