A portrait of the legendary jazz keyboardist, bandleader, poet and philosopher. Sun Ra. Ra and his avant-garde big band called the Arkestra are shown rehearsing, discussing their communal lifestyle, and performing many Sun Ra compositions including "Astro Black" and "We Travel the Spaceways". Ra recites his poetry, solos in a wide range of keyboard instruments, and outlines his unique personal mythology which includes metaphorical visions of both ancient Egypt and outer space.
