ALL AMERICAN HIGH
An uncritical documentary view of an All-American high school through the eyes of a Finnish exchange student. The film is not so much a cultural portrait as insight into the social rituals of the high school kids which will deliver them into adulthood and the world of materialism and competition. In this Californian middle-class school kids play pinball and video games as part of their curriculum and carry out 'mock' weddings after which they are given marriage counselling (how to buy a house, select the correct furniture, plan a family) and then after three weeks file for divorce. The Finnish student finds these activities strange but is nonetheless assimilated into the scene, becoming honorary princess at the Homecoming and the School Prom.
