AUGUST AND JULY

Director Murray Markowitz / 1972 / Canada

August and July is a film about two young women in love. They are not lesbians-this is their first realisation of their bi-sexual inclinations.

They are real people: Sharon Smith is a musician, Alexa DeWeil a writer. The film maker sets out to capture the beauty of their love, but also their doubts, frustrations and quarrels; their past and their evolving personalities.

The film attempts to be both a documentary and a dramatisation of reality: cinema verite blended with images of an enchanted summer glimpsed through the haze.
