RATOPOLIS

Director Gilles Thérien / 1973 / Canada

The rat population of the world (estimated at one rat per man) is a constant danger to health. It spreads disease, contaminates our drinking water, our food. The film studies a colony of wild rats; it observes their habits, their social stratification, their enormously rapid reproductive cycle.

Then it poses the question: What should be done about them? Scientists hesitate—the role of the rat in the ecological system is not yet established.
