David: Off and On
This is a biographical portrait of the filmmaker's brother, David. It follows him from his middle class childhood, through the death of his father, adolescent problems and drug involvement. He spends three and a half years in and out of mental institutions, and struggles with heroin addiction. He is articulate and has much to say about his attempts to find something to live for.
John Grierson Award, American Film Festival, 1973. Prizes at Chicago International Film Festival and New York Film Festival 1972.
