I AM AN OLD TREE

1975 / Canada

Michael Rubbo 'wanders into people's lives' and films them as he finds them. The tree, figuratively speaking, is Cuban society: people bending and being bent toward a different value system. Rubbo talks to many people, among them a doctor who returned from the United States, a tobacco farmer, a high school student. He observes life in the capital and in the countryside, and shows the evolution of the social structure under the Castro regime.
