In and Out of Time
This sensitive study of the filmmaker's grandmother who has Alzheimers disease, explores the nature of time and memory. The tyranny of memory loss means that she, an accomplished portrait artist, can draw her grandchild's face without recognizing it from one moment to the next. Without a short term memory, what happens to time? "If a moment means nothing later, in a sense it means everything now". What is the nature of self, that it can vanish with memory, or does it? And who creates the portrait, the face or the artist? (CS)
