Water and Romi
Air dan Romi
Made on video for an environmental seminar (the International seminar on Water) held in Jakarta by the Goethe Institute in December 1991, this film has subsequently won prizes at festivals in Europe. Using the voice-overs of its participants, the film depicts the lives of water carriers living and working in the slums of Jakarta, and the lives of those who are paid to clean the appallingly polluted river systems of this city of over 12 million people — rivers which the poorer people use to service many of their daily needs. The film is reputed to have created a stir in Indonesia, but has subsequently been shown abroad. |
