Ianfu

Director Antonio Vidal Aguilar / 1992 / Philippines

'Ianfu', which literally means 'comfort women', is a Japanese euphemism for prostitutes servicing military personnel. In this case it refers to Filipinos, who were forcibly conscripted to service the sexual needs of the Japanese military forces during the wartime occupation of the Philippines and who are now seeking compensation from the Japanese government. This film personalises and dramatises their experience.
