With little natural sound-the soundtrack consists largely of music from onscreen sources-and sparse commentary, the film shows how people spent their non-working hours. Overflowing with songs and icons of pop­ular culture from comic books to football adver­tisement, it is also imbued with the atmosphere of the British slums making this film a work of curiously mixed emotions.
