KOREAN CINEMA

Director Jang Sun-Woo, Park Ki-Yong, Samsung Nices / 1995 / Korea

The film is founded on perception of the very close connection between Korea's modern history and the development of Korean cinema. Jang Sun-Woo's view of history negotiates its way around all the trip-wires that criss-cross both the country and its cinema. He questions what Korea was, is and could be, illuminating the many missing pages in Korean film history. Most importantly the film is a celebration of the cinema—past and pre sent—which have tried to overcome all the circumscriptions of film censorship. A Fitting companion piece to The Taebek Mountains and Jang Sun-Woo's new feature, To You From Me.
