The Wind of Changes
This animation is based on the reminiscences of the violinist and composer Alex Balanescu. Yearning for personal freedom of expression, he moves from Bucharest, Rumania to New York - only to find the same insecurity and fear permeating society, but in the form of cut-throat competition. He says "you just had to use the right notes, more of less in the right order." Painterly graphic image are animated in sombre tones of black and white, colour as symbol. Sequences of live footage recreate pneumonic images, fleetingly evoked through the composer's own words and music, hauntingly profound.
