Feline

Director May Trubuhovich / 1997 / New Zealand/Australia

Two mutable clay creatures inhabit a spare tense soundscape and a bruise-coloured land and seascape created with paint-on glass sets. The location the filmmaker says is the anxious landscape of sexuality and desire. On an eerie beach a naked woman vomits up a big blue cat which stalks her. It startles her in a forest clearing as she magically and hermaphroditically re-moulds her body with her hands. While she sleeps the cat licks her like its kitten. With the help of her feline alter ego, Trubuhovich says, the woman seeks 'the animal within'.
