SPECTRES OF THE SPECTRUM
Before there was the X-Files, there was Craig Baldwin. In 1991 Baldwin concocted Tribulation 99, a hoax documentary at knitted together dozens of the kind of conspiracy theories that have left Mulder and Scully hopping for many a creepy episode. Baldwin's humourous twist was at every unexplained, tragic or disastrous occurrences that had taken place since WWII was attributable to a hateful race of half-reptile creatures hell bent on the destruction of Earth by covert means. Baldwin's latest film uses the techniques of Tribulation 99—combining curious archival footage with recreations, actors and an ominous voice-over—to weave a paranoid yarn concerning global communications, secret military activity and blood-sucking industrialists. In 2007, Boo Boo, a young telepath, and her renegade scientist father Yogi are prophets of Doom. They broadcast on a pirate radio station warning of the demise of civilisation due to 'The Pulse'. The remainder of their energies are spent converting a caravan into a time travelling spaceship!! Part sci-fi spoof, part conspiracy comedy, Spectres of the Spectrum is crazed fun. "What Baldwin produces has a certain visual and conceptual brilliance and thankfully, a sense of humour."—New York Times
