ANGST
This youthful Australian comedy sparkles with the wit of the Y generation—too old to be Generation X but still not game enough to quit their jobs at the video library. And that's where Dan finds himself a King's Cross share house with aspiring stand-up comic Ian (day job: porno bookstore) and Jade, an aspiring stoner (day job: stoner). During dull days at the video library, Dan diligently taps out screenplays for Zombie horror films that will never be made. Living on cynicism and the Tarantino myth of store clerk made good, Dan is shocked out of his ironic limbo by Goth beauty May. Together with teen street kid Mole, this unlikely bunch plumb the heights and depths of comedy in order to realise their dreams. Hanging upside down on the monorail having secretive sex involving your ex's stuffed toy collections or recovering your stolen VCR—it's the little things that provide the fabric for life's rich tapestry. A fine first effort from emerging talent Daniel Nettheim.
