CINéMA-VéRITé: DEFINING THE MOMENT

Director Peter Wintonick / 1999 / Canada

A feature documentary about documentary, Cinema-Verite: Defining the Moment is a major retrospective of some of the century's finest non-fiction films. The influence of the cinema verite approach in everything from music videos and films such as The Blair Witch Project is explored in this celebration of the contemporary legacy of this stylistic revolution of the late 50s and early 60s. Part road movie, part history, part celebration, part nod to the future, the film takes us on a journey across North America and Europe, in search of the masters who changed the way we see the world—and changed the world we see. We follow director Peter Wintonick and his crew as they place the filmmaking process in the frame and themselves in the story. Rich in footage from verite classics, Cinema Verite: Defining the Moment is a festival highlight.
