King of the Jews

Director Jay Rosenblatt / 2000 / USA

Meticulously constructed from religious films, old Hollywood footage and home movies, Rosenblatt exposes his own (and cinemas) troubled relationship with Jesus Christ, in examining the source of anti-semitism he weaves through the scavenged images a kind of healing homage to the King of the Jews. It is reminiscent, in scope and power, of Michael Lee's celebrative explorations of Catholicism.
