LONELY HEARTS
Lonely Hearts is the irresistible story of an unlikely romance between a sexually repressed bank clerk and an eccentric, kleptomaniac, piano tuner who has recently escaped the clutches of a domineering mother.
Meeting via a dating agency, the pair, played to perfection by Norman Kaye (Man of Flowers. Bad Boy Bubby, Turtle Beach) and Wendy Hughes (My Brilliant Career, Newsfront, Careful, He Might Hear You) embark on a highly unconventional courtship John Clarke, of The Games fame, who co-wrote the screenplay with director Paul Cox brings his unique comic talent to scenes of painful hilarity.
At times quirky, extremely touching, and always cinematically excellent. Lonely Hearts is gentle and ironic refreshing in its unpredictability and in the depth and credibility of its lead characters. This is a brand new 35mm print of an outstanding early Paul Cox work which collected the AFI Award for Best Film in 1982.
