SEXY BEAST
Nine years in jail is Gal's (Ray Winstone) cue to get out of London and away from bad company. He retires to the Costa del Sol with wife DeeDee and best friends Aitch and Jackie. Then, an ominous phone call. A big job is being planned back in London and Don Logan (Ben Kingsley), Gals former partner in crime, wants him to participate. Logan won't take no for an answer and bully boy Gal is no match for pure-bred psycho Logan, whose mere name sends folk reaching for the brandy with trembling hands. Kingsley's performance is astonishing— based on the UK sociopathic convict Charles Bronson (no relation)—his shaven head, nasty little beard and rolling gait sends shock waves of violence off the screen—the sort of man you'd want to cross the galaxy to avoid! Ian McShane's glacial Mr Big-deadpan lizard to Kingsleys spitting cobra is a performance that looks right back to his gangster role opposite Richard Burton in the classic Villain.
An absurdist crime thriller both tense and funny at the same time. It was rightfully nominated for Best British Film at the 2001 British Academy Awards .
