SOFT FOR DIGGING
Dressed only in his long Johns and a dressing gown, an elderly loner trudges through a creepy forest looking for his cat. He doesn't find the wayward kitty but does stumble across a macabre scene: a strange young man strangling a child with a rope! This heart stopping-opening propels an extraordinarily constructed film. Only a single word, 'murder', is spoken during the first hour. Haunted by a killing that no one believes he has witnessed, our protagonist attempts to go about his life as usual-in his isolated rural cabin. But this is not to be Freakish dreams deprive him of sleep, nightmares reminiscent of The Exorcist and Evil Dead Paranoid, atmosphenc and with a logic all its own, Soft for Digging is splendid low-budget terror. The devastating finale and the bizarre explanation of events is revealed in the only other spoken passage of the film. Revenge can reach from beyond the grave.
