I WON'T GO BACK HOME

No Quieno Volver A Casa

Director Albertina Carri / 2000 / Argentina

In her directional debut, Argentinean filmmaker Albertina Carri takes us into a world of troubled despair in / Won't Go Back Home. It tells the story of the enclosed and desperate world of two families shaken by a murder. This is a tough film filled with desolation and anger and offering sincere and effective testimonies about violence and pain in Buenos Aires. The two families are those of Ruben, a 35-year-old who is somewhat clueless and Ricardo, whose business is in decline and who is locked in a deadly dispute with his brother-in-law and partner. Shot in black-and-white, Carri captures the rigidity of a murder in Buenos Aires. "I wanted to show the city's overpowering quality", says director Alberlina Carri. "Buenos Aires is often shown as a melancholic city. Something more rigid was necessary, as if it were Berlin."
