THE VIDEO DIARY OF RICARDO LOPEZ

Director Sami Martin Saif / 2000 / Denmark

Ricardo Lopez put a gun to his head and pulled the trigger. At the time he was sitting in front of a home video camera. The tape of the event was broadcast on TV news setvices across the globe, not so much for shock value, but for the fact that earlier that same day, Lopez had mailed a package containing a sulphuric acid bomb to singer Bjork.

This astonishing documentary is comprised solely of selections of 18 hours of videotapes that Lopez left for investigators to uncover. The film tracks the course of this super stalker's descent from instability to insanity over roughly a year. Deeply dissatisfied with his job as (ironically) an exterminator; perceived betrayals by family and friends; his appearance and his addiction to pornography— Lopez, like a true-life version of Taxi Driver's Travis Bickle, finally explodes.
