PARADOX LAKE
Those who complain that US indie features have lost their edge should embrace Paradox Lake." - Variety
Selected for both Sundance and Berlin Film Festivals, Paradox Lake follows Matt, a listless young New Yorker. His life takes a strange new direction when he volunteers to assist at a summer camp for autistic teens. Orienting himself to the demands of kids who are frequently paralysed by ritualistic and obsessive behaviour pushes him to physical and mental limits. His experiences at the camp are taken to a new level when he develops a friendship with a 12-year-old girl whose secret world of codes, complex games and private mythology gives him glimpses of singular genius. Features a largely non-professional cast of actual counsellors and autistic children.
"It has the haunting otherworldliness of science fiction. By the time the story has arrived at its surprising climax, we have awakened to a new appreciation of the brain and its mysteries... the power of Paradox Lake comes from the way it locates these mysteries in vivid, difficult human relationships." - New York Times
