BOUND FOR PLEASURE

Director David Blyth / 2001 / New Zealand

Now that New Zealand is synonymous with The Lord of the Rings, don't think that all Kiwi dark pleasures are confined to the subterranean lairs of Trolls. Director David Blyth has embarked on his own quest for the ring: the nipple ring! Blyth trekked through New Zealand's most notorious dungeons, meeting and profiling the dominatrixes and slaves that comprise the thriving BDSM (Bondage. Discipline. Sado-Masochism) culture that lurks in New Zealand's hidden recesses (and backyard torture chambers).

This alternately humorous and scary documentary explores the motivations and pet fetishes of a variety of whip-toting, jack-booted mistresses, together with the painful peccadilloes of their subservient slaves. Human ashtrays, clothes-peg freaks, naughty nurses and nasty nuns: it's all on display dressed up in shiny leather and latex.

"The star of the show is Mistress J whose elegant insights provide the intellectual thread binding the whole film together. Bound for Pleasure might help the outside world understand all of us a bit better." - (fetish magazine) Skin Two

David Blyth has worked in film since the late 70s, tackling an enviable array of genres including psychological drama Angelmine (1980), a period piece A Woman of Good Character (1982), cult fantasy Death Warmed Up (1984) and thriller Exposure (2000).
