NE CHANGE RIEN

Director Pedro Costa / 2009 / Portugal/France

“The film is a sensorial exaltation… feast on the liquescent black and white cinematography, while Jeanne Balibar purrs her way through the recording and performing of an ensemble of musical pieces stretching from Offenbach to the synth-pop present day.” - Senses of Cinema

Born from a friendship between actor Jeanne Balibar (Va savoir, My Sex Life…), the late sound engineer Philippe Morel and filmmaker Pedro Costa (Colossal Youth), Ne Change Rien is an homage to the creative processes as Balibar and her musical collaborators prepare to record her 2006 album Slalom Dame.

Featuring French art-rock hero Rodolphe Burder (former Kat Onoma frontman), Ne Change Rien follows the rehearsals, recording sessions and performances of Balibar and co. Features visuals as stylish as the music, with chiaroscuro lighting, high contrast black and white, and camerawork that lingers over the soulful performances.
