LIFE DURING WARTIME

Director Todd Solondz / 2009 / USA

“Profound in its funny hipness, it shows Solondz as the true heir to Woody Allen, albeit on a far kinkier and politically/socially engaged level.” - Hollywood Reporter

A decade on from the squeamishly unforgettable Happiness, divisive filmmaker Todd Solondz returns to the lives of the same neurotic, sexually perverted and crushingly lonely characters in modern day Miami. Dealing with the fallout from their calamitous pasts, the twisted Jordan sisters and their messed-up men contemplate the possibility of forgiving and forgetting.

With an all-new cast that includes The Wire's Michael K. Williams standing in for Philip Seymour Hoffman and Pee-wee Herman (aka Paul Reubens) reprising Jon Lovitz's (short-lived) role, Life During Wartime finds Solondz mellowed but by no means less warped.

Recipient of multiple awards including the Golden Osella award for best screenplay at the 2009 Venice Film Festival.
