WINTER'S BONE
When her meth-cooking father goes missing, violating his bail conditions and putting the family home at risk of repossession, 17-year-old Ree Dolly (the revelatory Jennifer Lawrence) sets out to find him. Traversing the dangerous backwoods of the Missouri mountains, she confronts her father's unsavoury kin, unpicking the mystery of his disappearance while finding indiscriminate hostility, trailer-park poverty and a methamphetamine haze at every turn.
The latest feature from Debra Granik (Down to the Bone) is a hardened tale of ordinary heroism, as a girl does what needs to be done to save the family she has been left to protect.
Winter's Bone has won multiple awards, including the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance.
Director Debra Granik is a guest of the Festival.
