INNERSPACE (1987)

INNERSPACE

Director Joe Dante / 1987 / USA

“If The ‘Burbs is a one-finger exercise on the themes of Rear Window, Innerspace is a big-budget remake of North by Northwest, with a script that is in many ways even better: certainly funnier.” - Bill Krohn

“What if Dean Martin was miniaturized to microscopic size and inserted in Jerry Lewis's body?” This was the premise offered by screenwriter Jerry Boam that lured Joe Dante to this flawless buddy sci-fi comedy, loosely based on Richard Fleischer's 1966 Fantastic Voyage. A Steven Spielberg production, one of Dante's sunnier films and, in the words of Dante's brilliant scholar Bill Krohn, the director's “most personal”.

Restless navy pilot Dennis Quaid gets shrunk to the size of a germ and finds himself floating in the bloodstream of a hypochondriac supermarket clerk, played by Martin Short, in this industrial-espionage-thriller-meets-romantic-comedy.
