THE ANGELS' SHARE

Director Ken Loach / 2012 / UK

Winner of the Jury Prize at Cannes.

Ken Loach teams up with long-time collaborator Paul Laverty (The Wind That Shakes the Barley, MIFF 06) for The Angels' Share, a funny and affectionate crime caper about friendship, hope and the redemptive power of really expensive whiskey.

After his latest offence, Robbie - poor, Glaswegian and soon to be a father - is dispatched to a 'community payback' program. While there, the foreman treats him to a dram of whiskey, tapped from a barrel purportedly worth £1 million. Seeing a chance to pay off his debts and turn his life around, Robbie embarks on an attempt to steal the whiskey for himself.

“A heart-warming celebration of kindness, friendship and forgiveness. Like a fine whisky, the angry old man of British social realism seems to be mellowing with age. It suits him.” - Hollywood Reporter
