BEING ELMO

Director Constance Marks / 2011 / USA

"There are Piggy people in the world, and Kermit people, and Grover people, but Elmo people are everywhere." - Variety

Red, furry and with an infectious laugh that teaches children to hug, Elmo is one of Sesame Street's smallest and most loved puppets. But behind the cuddly monster is Kevin Clash, a gentle giant of a man who brought Elmo to life.

Charting Clash's lifelong interest in puppeteering, from his youth spent entertaining the neighbourhood children with homemade creations through to finally getting to work with his idol and inspiration Jim Henson on Labyrinth and Sesame Street, Constance Marks' engaging documentary follows the career of the humble puppeteer who made Elmo the iconic character beloved around the world.
