DEATH FOR SALE

Director Faouzi Bensaïdi / 2011 / Belgium,France,Morocco

"A gritty and stylized urban thriller with strong social overtones ... marked by solid performances and a convincingly dark atmosphere." – Hollywood Reporter

In the Moroccan port city of Tetouan, three down-on-their-luck thieves – naive Malik, fundamentalist Soufiane and ex-con Allal – come together for one last job: the town's biggest jewellery shop. But the three friends have very different reasons for signing on, and when their plan falls to pieces it's every man for himself.

An ultra-stylish neo-noir film set in the grimy back streets of Morocco, Death for Sale is the kinetic, ambitious new offering from acclaimed Moroccan filmmaker Faouzi Bensaïdi (A Thousand Months, MIFF 2003). A pulsating heist film turned razor-sharp social commentary, it's a clear-eyed, blisteringly shot portrait of the desperate things the weak must sometimes do for power.
