HAPPY CHRISTMAS
"A well-observed portrait on parenthood, responsibility (and lack thereof), arrested development and the divide between those who have kids and who do not." – The Playlist
Wildly prolific lo-fi auteur Joe Swanberg (Drinking Buddies, MIFF 2013) reunites with Anna Kendrick for a candid and wry exploration of ‘adultescence'.
As Christmas approaches, Jeff (Swanberg) hears that his recently dumped, wayward sister Jenny (Kendrick) needs a place to stay; and Jeff, partner Kelly (Melanie Lynskey) and their infant son (a scene-stealing Jude Swanberg) have room. Because when it's your own blood, there has to be room at the inn, right?
Shot on super-16mm by Drinking Buddies and Beasts of the Southern Wild (MIFF 2012) cinematographer Ben Richardson, and featuring a guest turn from Girls creator Lena Dunham, Swanberg's Sundance competition debut eavesdrops at kitchen doors and into darkened lounges to ask: how do Kelly and Jeff find Jenny when she can't find herself?
"Swanberg's most mature and satisfying film yet." – Film.com
