IF YOU DON'T, I WILL

"Breaking up is hard to do, yet entirely pleasurable to watch in If You Don't, I Will." – Variety
Taking the romance out of the rom-com, Sophie Fillières (Pardon My French, MIFF 2009) delivers this story about a couple whose passions remain strong, even though they are not for each other.
Forty-somethings Pomme (Emmanuelle Devos) and Pierre (Mathieu Amalric, Jimmy P, MIFF 2013) find their relationship declining at an accelerated rate after Pomme's teenage son heads out on his own. Their attempts to rekindle the romance devolve into farcical scenes spiked with witty verbal jousting, but things become more serious when, in the middle of a hike, Pomme decides she'd rather stay in the forest than return home. It's an extreme response that provides a great foundation from which Fillières explores the complexities of love that is long past its peak.
