THE KILL TEAM

Director Dan Krauss / 2013

"A true-life horror story, Dan Krauss' chilling war-is-hell exposé is must-see viewing." – Variety

In 2010 news broke of a group of US soldiers in Afghanistan who had been shooting civilians for sport, planting weapons on their victims' bodies to justify their killing as self-defence. When one of the group, 21-year-old Specialist Adam Winfield, turned whistleblower, the army ignored him and his platoon threatened him with the same fate as their victims. The media dubbed them The Kill Team; the military charged them with murder.

Oscar-nominated director Dan Krauss (the cinematographer for We Are Legion, MIFF 2012) gained unprecedented access to many of the implicated, shockingly forthright soldiers – especially Winfield and his parents – in order to shoot this intimate, often harrowing look at American military culture and the moral casualties of war. The result deservedly won Best Documentary at the Tribeca Film Festival.

"Real journalistic bravery … this is a stunning, powerful film." – Film School Rejects
