MY GOLDEN DAYS
"A film which could happily spiral on into infinity, and you kinda wish it would." – Little White Lies
Detained at the Paris airport and placed in an interrogation room, anthropologist Paul (Mathieu Amalric) recounts his youth. At 11, he is plagued by family traumas; at 16, he dallies with a double and becomes immersed in political trouble; at 19, he falls for high-school student Esther, embarking on a tumultuous love affair that will shape his future.
Acting as a companion piece to My Sex Life... or How I Got Into an Argument, My Golden Days sees French director Arnaud Desplechin (A Christmas Tale, MIFF 2008) auspiciously turn to the coming-of-age genre. With an eye for imaginative details and an ear for 80s/90s rock and hip-hop, he tells a bittersweet tale of teenage turmoil, complete with a star-making performance from newcomer Quentin Dolmaire as the younger Paul and Lou Roy-Lecollinet as Esther.
