Children Do Not Play War
Over decades, tens of thousands of children in Uganda were abducted by Joseph Kony’s Lord’s Resistance Army and either enslaved or trained as soldiers. Children Do Not Play War gives survivors space to tell their own experiences.
Through a blend of traditional oral storytelling and 21st-century VR technology, the work introduces us to Aloyo and a group of fellow war survivors as they sit around a fire and discuss their war stories. Director Fabiano Mixo, working with Oculus for Good, melds fact and fiction with the children’s dreams and memories to offer a touching look at how they have begun to rebuild their lives … and regain their childhoods.
