Goldie

Fashion model and Instagram sensation Slick Woods makes her explosive film debut in a quintessentially New York tale about chasing a dream.

Goldie (Woods) is a New York teenager who’s bursting to make it as a hip-hop dancer. If she can land a pivotal music video gig, in the perfect gold-coloured coat, the world will be hers. But when her mother’s jailed for drug dealing, Goldie must protect her two little sisters from the social services system. Can she keep her family together, and steer a course for stardom?

Young Dutch filmmaker Sam de Jong brings a boisterous energy to his second feature, beautifully blending scenes of playful fantasy with moments of social realism to portray the gulf between dreams and harsh reality. The bittersweet tale is full of hope, yet it also acknowledges the precariousness of Goldie pinning all her hopes on one fleeting opportunity.

Goldie traverses the divide between self-belief and doing whatever it takes to survive. Like Goldie herself, it is a film bursting with attitude, determination and rebelliousness.

“Slick Woods brings out the vulnerability in this seemingly tireless spirit, transforming Goldie’s story into a poignant coming of age.” – Screen Daily
