Finding Jedda

Director Tanith Glynn-Maloney / 2021 / Australia

Viewer advice: Contains themes of racism and discrimination against Indigenous Australians

The directorial debut from producer Tanith Glynn-Maloney (She Who Must Be Loved) reimagines the 1954 auditions for Charles Chauvel’s iconic final film.

Betty and Rosalie are best friends living on a Northern Territory mission. When cinema titans Charles and Elsa Chauvel arrive, searching for the perfect star for their revolutionary moving picture, the girls are forced to decide whether to rise up to the occasion.

Captivatingly shot and driven by magnetic performances from newcomers Siobhan Breaden and Amarlie Briscoe, Finding Jedda shrewdly depicts the blurry line between plaudit and paternalism.
