One Thousand and One Attempts to Be an Ocean
In the age of information overload, the challenge is to avoid drowning.
Premiering at the 2021 Berlinale, One Thousand and One Attempts to Be an Ocean is a sensory smorgasbord of micro-images and sound bites sourced from the glut of ‘satisfying videos’ available online. Removed from their intended contexts, these snippets of information are reduced to raw material, but Wang Yuyan builds them into a work akin to video sculpture, at once satisfying and unnerving.
