Baltasar
An African migrant living in Spain is confronted with the bitter meaning of ‘home’.
Set against the backdrop of the Three Kings holiday in Barcelona, Baltasar depicts a Senegalese man’s diligent attempts to make ends meet in a new land – and how swiftly it can all be taken away. The striking debut of Australian journalist turned filmmaker Brietta Hague is a humanistic social-realist work that balances empathy with commentary, using unobtrusive, largely verité camerawork to foreground the sobering realities of its displaced protagonist.
