MARINA ABRAMOVIĆ: THE ARTIST IS PRESENT (2012) [feature]

USA (MIFF 2012 , Documentaries)
Director: Matthew Akers

Stare into the eyes of a performance art icon.

Seductive, fearless and outrageous, Marina Abramović has been challenging the definition of art for four decades. Marina Abramović: The Artist is Present follows the performance art doyenne in the year leading up to her 2010 retrospective at New York's Museum of Modern Art, in which she sat motionless for seven hours every day, gazing intently into the eyes of the gallery goers who lined up for hours to sit opposite her.

Intertwined with biographical elements and copious footage (archival and contemporary), the documentary is an intense and emotional close-up of a truly compelling artist.

“Abramović fans, among the art world's most rabid, will salivate at the chance to see their star up close, while skeptics of performance-art modes may have to reconsider their stance after watching this.” - Variety
