A heartwarming exploration of what makes people break down and the love that might heal and restore.

Eleven-year-old Skunk Cunningham lives in North London with her older brother Jed, dad Archie (Tim Roth) and au pair Kasia. Despite her diabetes and a crush on her schoolteacher (Cillian Murphy), Skunk's life is easy - until the day she witnesses a brutal crime, throwing her life into chaos. With her childhood certainties draining away, and her home, neighbourhood and school all becoming emotional minefields, an accusation of a second crime adds to the chaos in her community.

Opening Critics' Week at this year's Cannes, Broken is celebrated theatre director Rufus Norris' first feature. Vibrant and engaging, it is anchored by a remarkable star turn from newcomer Eloise Laurence, who gives Skunk an endearing realism, as well as strong performances from a supporting cast and a haunting score from Damon Albarn's Electric Wave Bureau.

“Rich in poignant moments and negotiates its frequent shifts from violence to gentleness to sorrow with sensitivity.” - Hollywood Reporter
