Wade

Director Upamanyu Bhattacharyya,Kalp Sanghvi / 2020 / India
A Kolkata family displaced by rising sea levels encounters a horde of ravenous tigers. This immersive, vibrantly detailed vision of a climate change–ravaged India – which screened at the Annecy, Krakow, Palm Springs and Brooklyn film festivals, among others – uses 2D animation to depict a violent clash for survival. With virtuosic visual and aural compositions, along with a strong environmental message, Wade shows the parallel experiences of species trying to stay afloat on a dying planet. “Chilling … There’s a tinge of magical realism to the film, one that borrows from the folklore and stories around the Sundarbans and Bengal in general.” – VICE Warning: Contains animated scenes of animal cruelty and infanticide.
