Impossible Space
A symphonic journey through fascinating real and artificial visual worlds, inspired by the spirit of science and discovery.
Composer Johannes Kraas and visual artist Rocco Helmchen use the unique 360-degree dome space for their latest collaboration, the immersive odyssey Impossible Space. Yet, in this production, the cosmos isn’t merely the outer universe; it can also unfold in our everyday lives, within our bodies, in a computer algorithm or in the unimaginably small building blocks of reality itself. This sci-art-music show picks up all these themes, reinterprets them in new and unexpected ways, and creates a unique audiovisual experience.
The original music melds and contrasts epic orchestral film scores with minimalist electronic sounds and beats, or expansive soundscapes with tender melodic themes. It serves to guide and emotionally engage, transforming each visual into a vivid, tangible world that might truly exist within the infinite stretches of space – or, perhaps, they already do. In turn, the imagery ranges from fractal-mathematical nebulae, imagined planets or strange AI-generated dimensions to nature on Earth, abstracted realities and human forms. A vortex of colour, light and sound warps space and time, inviting the audience on a fascinating ride through our profoundly impossible universe.
